That writer is me and this is about that 1 question that brought a part of me out of darkness.
Here it is...
At 36 years of age as an able, creative, energetic, eager and intelligent young man, why am I not at least 1/2 way to my fortune?
My mentor Mr. Jim Rohn taught me that there's an invisible threshold between pleasure and pain. Sometimes when the potential pain outweighs possible pleasure, whether immediate or long-term, we stay away from whatever it is that can cause that pain.
This is where things get tricky and very dangerous if not treated right. Sometimes the short-term pain can lead to long-term pleasure but we have to know how to get there and more importantly, that we can.
Now there are 2 ways we can answer any question. One way is to answer in truth. The other way is to ignore the truth.
There are 2 ways to ignore the truth in any question.
Ignoring the truth can mean lying or it can mean avoiding it all together. Either way, the truth is ignored right?
Admittedly telling the truth can sometimes be painful. Such would be the case in answering a question like above if it ever confronted you. The truth would hurt! It would cause severe trauma. It would pierce my heart and I would have to deal with a great deal of pain.
If I ignored the truth, sure there would be the avoidance of pain. But that wouldn't mean I was experiencing pleasure. It would simply mean that I would be avoiding the greater pain.
So where does the pleasure come in when answering such an important question?
The great thing about trauma is that it allows us to examine what the problem is. When something isn't working and we ignore it, we don't know what the problem is. It doesn't have our attention. How could we know what the trouble is?
When we force ourselves to experience it though, feeling that pain, it gives us that needed opportunity to examine the problem.
Once we know...we can fix it.
That is when doors open up and inspiration begins to flow. In that moment, after the shock and awe of that exploding realization, we can begin to fix it. The pleasure that comes from this inspiration where you now know that whatever happens, you'll never let anything harm you that way again.
It's one thing to ask yourself a question like this and it's another to be completely honest when you answer. It is so easy to avoid the truth and keep going down the same road.
The pain you save is tremendous.
But if you'll take that sacrifice and answer truthfully the tough questions that can change your life... that's when true growth begins to happen. From that growth... a life filled with challenges and the pleasure to go with it.
